Guards – Bite/Night/Mouth/Snore
What are Mouth Guards?
Mouth guards are an essential piece of equipment in contact sports. They should be worn by athletes of all ages who participate in sports such as:
- …any sport where contact is a possibility.
Wearing a mouth guard helps prevent against structural damage to your teeth and jaw and also helps prevent injuries such as lacerations to your cheeks, tongue, and lips. Mouth guards have also been shown to help decrease the risk of concussions.
Mouth guards are available in most any sporting goods store, but you should be careful when purchasing a mouth guard. Mouth guards like this do not offer the best level of protection. They are also usually ill-fitting and uncomfortable.
For the highest level of comfort and protection, Dr. Fester can provide a custom mouth guard fitting. A custom mouth guard is created specifically for the optimal protection of YOUR mouth. It is created with thin plastic that is hardened to protect your teeth. The thinness of the custom mouth guard allows for easy breathing and also allows for easy communication (especially important for you star quarterbacks calling out the signals).
What Are Bite/Night Guards?
Studies indicate that up to 30% of adults will grind or clench their teeth while they are asleep. Negative effects on a patient are less restful sleep and tension headaches. Painful consequences may develop in teeth, gums, bone and the temporomandibular joint (commonly known as TMJ). When diagnosed in the early stages, it is possible to avoid discomfort and more serious damage.
This can have several negative effects on a patient. Sleep is definitely less restful, tension headaches may develop, and painful consequences may develop in the teeth, gums, bone, and the If this practice can be corrected in the early stages, it is possible to avoid much discomfort and damage.
The habit of grinding/clenching the teeth can normally be solved through the use of a bite guard. The stock guards found at local grocery and drug stores will not be nearly as effective or comfortable as a custom guard Dr. Fester can design for you.
Dr. Fester will make an impression of your teeth. He sends the impression to his lab which makes a guard specifically designed for your teeth. These guards consist of a soft, flexible plastic mold. You will wear it while you sleep and it will protect your teeth, tongue, cheek and lips. You will find it comfortable as it was designed specifically to fit your teeth and mouth.
What are Snore Guards?
One way to treat excessive snoring and sleep apnea is to use dental or oral devices. These appliances are useful in correcting mild to moderate cases of obstructive sleep apnea. The good news is that there are numerous options for these dental devices, and an orthodontist or dentist can recommend one that suits the particular needs of the patient and fit it in the safest way.
One device that can be recommended for the sleep apnea sufferer is the mandibular advancement device. This is one of the most widely used dental appliances for the treatment of sleep apnea. It resembles a sports mouth guard in appearance and is useful in forcing the lower jaw down and forward slightly. This offers tremendous help in keeping the airway open, thereby preventing problems in breathing.
A tongue-retraining device can also be recommended to correct sleep apnea. This splint holds the tongue in the right position and works to keep the airway open. Regular dental visits are crucial because the device requires periodic adjustments or replacements.

What others say about us
I was a little fuzzy when leaving the office yesterday and it was a couple of hours later when I really looked in the mirror.
Your good and careful work has made a remarkable improvement in the appearance of those bottom teeth. I could hardly believe it, and now will not be so conscious when smiling.
When Mike saw me there in the waiting room he said “Oh, Delores, that is so good”. And, the inside feels very smooth – after all these years!
Thank you for all the excellent work you have done, your kind consideration and your friendship.
