Who Is a Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry is recommended for those who:
- Have extreme dental anxiety or fear
- Have an extremely sensitive teeth or gag reflex
- Require complex dental work
- Have had a negative experience at a dentist’s office
- Delay visiting the dentist because they likely require extensive dental work
“A smile is something wonderful to give that does not cost a cent!”
Many individuals experience some anxiety when visiting the dentist and often postpone regular appointments or procedures. That can prevent them from achieving the beautiful smile they desire, or having much-needed dental work performed (including that to save a tooth or the gums).
Fortunately, Dr. Fester offers and option to help our patients relax and feel completely comfortable during their visit. This is known as sedation dentistry.
What Is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry makes dental work easy and comfortable. Patients take oral medication so they are completely relaxed and at ease throughout their treatment, feeling no pain or discomfort. They are not unconscious, but still responsive and able to follow directions and requests from our team. After the work is finished, patients slip comfortably out of their relaxed state, and most have no recollection of the experience at all!
What is the process for Sedation Dentistry?
We meet with the patient to discuss his or her wants, needs, and treatment plan. We supply the patient with oral medication to take the night before their scheduled treatment so they can enjoy a restful sleep. The morning of their appointment, they take another medication and have a companion transport them to our office. Our staff can provide the patient with another dose if the effects of the medication are wearing off. Dr. Fester completes his work while the patient relaxes and enjoys a calm, yet conscious, state. The patient leaves our office after the procedure in the care of his or her companion, and relaxes at home until the medication has completely worn off.
What others say about us
I was a little fuzzy when leaving the office yesterday and it was a couple of hours later when I really looked in the mirror.
Your good and careful work has made a remarkable improvement in the appearance of those bottom teeth. I could hardly believe it, and now will not be so conscious when smiling.
When Mike saw me there in the waiting room he said “Oh, Delores, that is so good”. And, the inside feels very smooth – after all these years!
Thank you for all the excellent work you have done, your kind consideration and your friendship.
Dear Dr. Fester,
When I saw this article today in the AJC it made me think of you and your staff. And how you emulate their description of running a successful and happy office!
Your attention to providing me with an upper partial and lower denture is appreciated. Greetings to everyone on your staff and family!
Dear Dr. Fester,
Thank you so much for your kindness! You and your staff have always been wonderful to our family. Please accept this gift for a special treat for you and your staff. (“my treat”)
